How to choose the best internet package in the United States?

Shopping for the best internet service provider is fairly simple. You’ll want to get fast speeds and at fair prices. Customer service and availability during downtime is certainly a welcome bonus, as are extra perks such as zero cost installations.

Here’s a short and simple guide to choosing the best internet package in the US.

Step 1. Find ISPs In Your Area

You may already have an internet service provider in mind, but they may not be available where you live.

In this case you can rely on websites that let you check on all available companies in your area. For instance, you can check to see if you can get Wave internet or a similar ISP that offers great internet at good prices.

Step 2. Compare the Important Details

The ‘details’ in this regard are the dealbreakers when it comes to finding good internet, such as speed, cost and perks.

Most ISPs will try to separate themselves from the pack by offering something different. They can advertise top speed, lowest price or zero cost installation and others.

For those who are on a budget, you can aim for a low-tier plan with sufficient download and upload speed. Those who want to try out a company they never had before will want a no-contract service. It all depends on what you want from an internet provider.

Step 3. Look for Bundle Deals and Discounts

Once you’ve narrowed down the list to about five or so, you can begin the elimination process by checking for value.

A value deal is something that can give you your money’s worth, whether it be a price cut over 6 months or a higher speed for the same period. Some companies offer no rental costs for their routers, while others promise gift cards or bundled deals when you get cable or phone services.

Step 4. Figure Out How Fast You Want Your Internet to Be

Internet speed has a direct correlation to how much you’ll be paying every month. Simply getting the highest possible plan could prove to be a waste of money, especially if you’ll only be using it sparingly.

You need to ask yourself, what do I plan to do online? If it’s online shopping, browsing the web and doing the occasional chat or social media, then you’re probably okay with a 5 to 10 mbps connection.

For heavy users, including those who stream video content in full HD or 4K, play online games, download large files and constantly have a video call up and running, an internet speed of anywhere between 40 to 100 mbps is recommended. The more users or family members, the higher the broadband.

Step 5. Sign Up and Wait

At this point you’ll have a clear winner in your hands. Now is the time to visit the company’s website and schedule an install. You may need to put in details such as your name, address and email for contact purposes.

When approved, sit back and wait for the ISP to arrive. Soon, you’ll have the internet you want at the price that’s friendly on your pocket.
